Stoke city manager Tony Pulis has said that Arsenal youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain should be part of the Euro 2012 squad. According to the Stoke city manager, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is one of the most exciting prospect in world football and he would become the next big thing if he gets the taste of international football. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was playing in league one only a few years ago until Arsene Wenger snapped him up. He was initially expected to be sent out on loan deals to various clubs across Europe, but he has been a sensational hit in the Arsenal first team in his first season in the Premier league.
Of course, a number of injuries within the Arsenal team during the early part of the campaign made it possible for him to get regular football. However, Tony Pulis reckons that the 18-year-old has shown incredible mental toughness and character to establish himself in the Arsenal squad. Pulis has also revealed that he almost signed the player before Arsenal came in for him. If new England manager Roy Hodgson decided to take Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to the Euro 2012, then it would be extremely similar to the situation Arsenal winger Theo Walcott faced back in the 2006 FIFA World Cup.
“I would take him. He is a top player. I would be very surprised if he did not go to the Euros in fact. He is that good. He can play off both feet and I think he can score goals. He is as strong as an ox and I do think he has a bright future. It would be great experience for him. And I don’t think he would let anybody down. Out of all the young players we talk about he has been exceptional in big games this season – even on European nights he has done exceptionally well,” said Pulis.
Arsenal youngster Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has said that he is not getting carried away with the success he has been having in the Arsenal first team of late. Despite being only 18 years old, Arsenal starlet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has already established himself as one of the first team regulars for Arsenal this season. The absence of Jack Wilshere and the departure of Cesc Fabregas have ensured that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has not had the requirement of waiting in line to get his chance. The youngster was signed from Southampton for £12 million. Despite having the same roots as Arsenal winger Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has already started to outmuscle Theo Walcott in the popularity ranks.
He is once again set to become the major force in midfield when Arsenal take on Tottenham this weekend. This match is expected to be a crunch match for Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has come under intense pressure of late. The inability to win a trophy in the last seven years has certainly put a question on the future of Arsene Wenger, who has said during this week that even finishing fourth will feel like winning a trophy. Arsenal are currently the fourth position, which will guarantee them Champions League football, but a loss this weekend coupled with a Chelsea win will drive them out of the top four.
“With him being by my side I can never get too big for my boots. As a winger, when you have a good game and take people on then people expect the same every week. I’ve got to do what I can to apply that consistency, and that’s what he tells me. I think I’ve got a well-grounded family network and that definitely helps me,” Oxlade-Chamberlain said on the official website of Arsenal. Oxlade-Chamberlain is a favourite to be at the Euro 2012 with England.
Arsenal youngster Alex Oxlade Chamberlain is ready to go out on loan for the remainder of the season in order to get more playing time on the field.
Oxlade chamberlain, who signed for The Gunners from Southampton last summer has had limited opportunities with the first 11 and made sporadic appearances for the side in the English League Cup and the early matches of the UEFA Champions League. However, with the North London club knocked out of the League Cup and the business end of the season approaching in both the UEFA Champions League and the English Premier League, it is almost certain that manager Arsene Wenger will turn to the tried and tested players during this time.
This drastically limits the opportunities that the 18 year old might get on the field and he feels that if he doesn’t leave on loan, his dreams of playing for The Three Lions at Euro 2012 in the summer will be all but over. His former club Southampton has expressed interest in taking the youngster back from Arsenal on a short term deal but Wenger is yet to make up his mind about letting The Ox leave the club on a short term basis.
The Gunners are still in the running for the FA Cup and Oxlade Chamberlain might get a few more matches in the easier matches of the tournament and neither he nor his agent or father thinks that it will be enough to get into the England squad for the Euros. Fabio Capello has plenty of midfielders and attackers at his disposal and unless the teenager shows some sublime form, his chances look bleak already.
According to reports, the youngster has already pleaded with manager Arsene Wenger to release him but with Arsenal short of numbers that might not happen.
